Sounds like you needed to rough up the surface with light sanding so the paint would adhere. I just bought a spray paint and i used it on an old dresser. Why is it that the paint wrinkles up and looks bad?
Did you read the directions on the can? It could be a number of things, including the temperature. Was it hot or cold when you used it?

Did you strip the item first, or just spray this on whatever finish you had on the dresser? Could be that your spray is incompatible with the existing paint or varnish on the dresser. Generally, if you have an oil based paint on the dresser, the latex (or water based) paint isn't going to adhere well. If you put say vegetable oil in water, it floats to the top, right? Basically, the same thing happens with the paint and it won't stick.

Strip the dresser and start over. It's very, very important to read the directions of the product you use to paint it with and follow them to the letter. Most products have a consumer information/customer service phone number on the can. Get out your glasses - it's usually in tiny print. Call them and ask what the problem could be. The company will be your best source of information. Also check out the company website. They usually have lots of great information, too.

The problem can be multiple things. You need to prep the dresser's old finish before applying the spray paint. You may have grease or dirt that does not allow the spray paint to bite into the old finish. Most spray paints are also lacquer based and may react this way when sprayed over a shellac finish. You will have to sand the dresser and reapply the spray paint.
becuase there is something on the wood did you try and sand it down and if it is old wood or some kinds of wood i heard of it doing that
Did you prime it?
